Mariam Saeed Khan
Mariam Saeed Khan was 12 years old when she penned down her first poem, “ Lady in a Deep Sleep” when she lost her aunt but it was dedicated to her late mother as it resonated more within that void; who she lost when she was almost 2. Ironically, death became a turning point in her life to begin the legacy of fulfilling the void by writing as she felt connected in those raw and soulful art of storytelling that was bestowed upon her Creator.
Since an early age, she believed in the power of reaching out to the world through her words, conviction and any difference that can create a change; she would always go for it. Due to this, she wrote a post mail letter to JK Rowling back in 2006 when the last Harry Potter book was to be released- to let her know that her books made an impact on a girl living in Lahore, Pakistan that was herself.
There was no turning back when she received the reply and hence became a journey to be the voice of people, emotions and an agent of the change for the society that pulls down people; empowering one individual at a time whether it was the cause of education or empowering the community through NGOS and in an individual capacity. Her poetic writings are shared, read and reviewed by Paulo Coelho, Kaveh Akbar, IN-Q Adam Schmalholz. The journalistic features are read and appreciated by the creative industry of Pakistan. Her fictional writing genre is speculative: magical realism. The one Greek that describes her work is Meraki.
Recently, Miss Khan gave an attendee talk at TEDxWomen Lahore on "Why rewriting our past stories of family lines matters for future narrative?" at British Council Library Lahore (December 2019)
